Hi my wife & I have been on 6 Leger tours to date. The 7th was going to be The Old contempibles tour. My wife surprised me by booking walking the Salient on 21 Apr.

Any body been on the tour, I ask the question as we are both approaching the big six o & are not particularly fit! What's the tour like? I'm a bit worried about the missus as she can fall down on a snooker table& am sure she will se more of her feet than the surrounding country side.

A question for Mr Reed, Paul you don't happen to know the guide for this trip do you?

regards

John

Hi,

There is a tour report under 'Walking the Ypres Salient'. The tour is fantastic. I really enjoyed it when I went last year.

Don't worry about the walking, I am totally unfit and managed well over the terrain, and the good lady managed better than me. There about 5 walks over the holiday, each lasting about 3 or 4 miles. The pace though as casual with plenty of stops for places of interest along the way. You will need to take a pair of walking boots with you and waterproofs as the Belgium weather is not the best in the world.

The guides on the tour I went on were Peter Williams and Iain McHenry. If you get them, then you are in for a treat. Then again all the guides I have had the fortune to meet have been excellent.

May I suggest that you make 'The Old Contemptables' your eighth trip as this is also a great battlefield experience. I hope you really enjoy your time. Let the forum know how it went.

Thanks for that Harmat, thats put my mind at rest I thought I read somewhere the walks were longer - may have been the Somme walk which we may do next year.

We had already booked The Old contemptibles tour, so for the first time we 've got two tours in one year.

Are you doing a Tour this year?

PS - Iain McHendry make me jealous - he lives in Ypers

Hi Snudge,

I am am doing the 'Advance to Victory' trip in June. Possibly the 90th armestice anniversary trip to Ypres.

Yes, I am jealous of Iain as well. I think there are a couple of guides that live around that area. I hope you keep posting on the message board as it is good to see a new member.

As has been mentioned the walking tours are fairly gradual efforts and do not require great walking skills to complete. In Flanders we mainly use tracks and tarmac minor roads, so you won't be crawling across shell craters or anything!

In respect of guides, I am pretty sure the guides for this date are indeed Iain and Peter, but as always this is a provisional allocation and may well change.

I am out on another tour that week - but if you see me at the Interchange come and say hello.

Thanks Paul,

The last tour we were on with you as guide was the forgotten front tour, must have been 2004 as in 2005 we went on the 1915 tour with Keith.

You may remember the tour because a half witted teenager let of the fire extinguisher at the hotel in Tournai.

P.S. I thought both tours were excellent. It was also the tour when you pulled out a dead mans penny when we were at Dud Corner - that small act has cost me a small fortune<img src="http://battlefields.leger.co.uk/forum/Skins/BattlefieldSkin/Images/EmotIcons/Tongue.gif" width=20 border=0>.

Hi S/M Snudge & Harmat (and everyone of course).

I am doing 'Advance to Victory' in June and 'Old Contemptibles' in September. Hopefully meet up with you on the tours.

Busy year this year with Kaisers Battle in three weeks and the Armistice in November. Must be down to Leger having such great tours and guides.
