best western hotels

Be warned !!! On a few of the tours now if it states the name of one hotel ie. hotel cathedral and then says if heavily booked will use another hotel it will be best western. We did " all quiet on the western front " in 2005. We took two friends because we'd raved about leger tours. We were in the best western at menen. Firstly when the coach pulled up there was no pavement, hadn't been for over a year. There were planks from the coach to the hotel entrance. Couple of our party were very elderly and was very difficult for them. Food was dreadful, no proper evening meals but the worse thing was the bar closed promptly at 10pm every night as the barmaid had to go home andno one in the hotel was prepared to run it.
Complained to leger and we had a £50 voucher.
Last year we did the somme anniversary tour and guess what, another best western. I won't bore you with how bad it was suffice to say there was no hot water the whole of our stay. Unless leger can assure us our hotel is not best western we won't travel with them again which is a shame as we have had 5 really good tours.

D-Day Landing tours/museams

Im 24 now and i remember when i was at school we went to france to see the dday landing beaches and other things, that was going back a few years(12 years ago! now that makes me feel old!)

I didnt pay much attention then but now im really getting into it, got a few books and dvds.

What i want to know is if i was to go on the dday landings tour(4day) would i see much? all the beaches? Would we go to any museams?(i remember going to one with school and they had a little cinema showing films from the day) That always stuck in my head cuz i remember a few vetrens were there with there medals on and they were crying after watching the film(bring back bad memories, i guess)

Could anyone tell me if this museam/centre is still there?

Single Person Surcharge

I've tried using the Tell Us What You Think link to raise this but it isn't working.

My good lady wife has granted me a 120 hour pass and I thought I would book myself onto the October Arnhem/Rhine trip and see where my father fought and was wounded.

Then I saw the surcharge of £59 for single traveler which took the cost to £408. Pass withdrawn.

How on earth can this charge be justified?

I would be grateful if someone from Leger could respond, either via PM or e-mail or here.

Arnhem - September trip

We're going on the 'Operation Market Garden' trip in September, but have been told that some of the itinerary is due to be changed to incorporate 'commemorative ceremonies.'
Does anyone know what will be chopped/added to the tour, as we may consider making our own alternative arrangements around the ceremonies (I appreciate there will be veterans on this anniversary trip who will want to attend the ceremonies, but we would rather be out and about experiencing some of the local culture and life).

One of our very first trips with leger was to waterloo and mons. Have you any information as to whether these places will be included in 2008 tours?

Cafe Gondree

Having visited the Cafe Gondree at Pegasus Bridge on numerous occasions, I think it is in desperate need of major structural renovation.

Is this a French Listed Building?

I know it is owned by Arlette Gondree, who I have had the pleasure of meeting several times.

As it was the first building to be liberated on D-Day, I would have thought it would have a preservation order on it, if so it needs some work doing to it.

Do you know anything?

Channel Tunnel

As a frequent traveler with Leger, I am becoming very dissapointed....

The reason is this....I have booked to go on the Dutch Bulbfield Cruise in April.

In August I am taking a party of colleagues over to Arnhem, on the Market Garden tour.

My wife is going with Leger to Paris and Monet's Garden tour, also in August...

On each occasion the cross channel service is via the tunnel.

What has happened to the ferry?

The ferry gives the traveler a WELCOME break from sitting on the coach.

For example...my trip to the Dutch Bulbfields is in excess of 15 hours from my pick up point, the ferry would be a welcome break.

Leger seem to have abandoned the ferry...WHY?

I can only assume it is cost.

If this is true, it is a poor policy....The journey to your destination has to be part of the tour, other wise the whole experience becomes HARD WORK.

Come on Leger, let's get back on the boat.

I'm sure you can negotiate a decent price....

Are you able to tell us who will be our guide for 'All Quiet on the Western Front' 4-day tour starting on 17th May 2007? Last time we went (Nov 2005 in the snow!) it was Peter Williams who was great. It would be good to see him again. :)

We have just returned from four great days in france visiting cemeteries that it isn't always possible to visit on a tour. There is a lot of general maintenance going on. I have a question, who are these vandals who outline names on a memorial in biro???There is evidence of cleaning on some parts and you can see where the pen marks areDoesn't 't anyone ever see these morons in action?

We are joining the 'All quiet on the Western Front Tour" in May. Are we likely to see poppies blooming in the fields at that time?
