Hello,I've been reading the book "Walking the Somme"to get some insight, before my battlefield tour with ledger in september and theres mention of "Special Memorials" placed in the cemeteries to certain soldiers ,where these placed by their families?and are these as well as the normal headstone?,one last question any idea who will be the guide on the silver service trip"all quiet on the western front" on the 15/9/2008? Thanks

Hi there - Special Memorials are headstones which commemorate men known to be buried in a cemetery but the exact location of the grave is not known. They were erected by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission when the cemeteries were made permanent.
As for a guide for the September tour, I haven't as yet allocated anyone for that yet.
