I've tried using the Tell Us What You Think link to raise this but it isn't working.

My good lady wife has granted me a 120 hour pass and I thought I would book myself onto the October Arnhem/Rhine trip and see where my father fought and was wounded.

Then I saw the surcharge of £59 for single traveler which took the cost to £408. Pass withdrawn.

How on earth can this charge be justified?

I would be grateful if someone from Leger could respond, either via PM or e-mail or here.

Thanks

As a long term single traveller I guess I have become 'conditioned' to paying single supplement on any holiday not just Leger. I want to do one of the 'Walking the .....' trips next year among others but the single supplement is £120 !

And before it is said....NO I don't wish to share a room with a complete stranger (millionaires excepted subject to sight of bank account !).

Trips offered as 'No Single Supplement'....Leger included, actually work out to the same price as standard trips with supplement added. I know.....I have done the sums too many times.

Many tour companies are 'stitched up' by the hotels who surcharge them for rooms so I grudgingly concede some points to the tour companies. I don't think it will change and on a positive note although not much comfort, Legers single supplements are not as steep as many and the accomodation is usually of the same standard as every other traveller. Listen for the table thumping at reception if it isn't !

£120??!!

Blimey. With prices like that my Leger holidays will decrease as SWMBO is not keen on doing some of the ones I want to do.

Surely these hotels have single rooms for business travellers. The nature of these trips lead to single travellers as well. Surely Leger can negotiate single room reductions?

The problem with most hotels and their idea of a single room is the 'box' between the linen cupboard and the staff loo !

Its not so bad opening the door and falling over the bed if you've just done the Rhine Cruise with total inebriation throw in....then it's quite handy but when you've paid ,in some cases, several hundred pounds extra (not Leger) it's no joke !

I was told my a travel company (again not Leger) that single supplement was to compensate for one person not spending as much as two on food and drinks etc.

Yes......I laughed as well.

On a positive note I find travelling as a single person on Leger battlefield tours a very pleasant experience. I have always had a very nice travelling companion sitting next to me on the coach and as everybody shares the same interests on the tour it normally becomes just one big happy group.

Who's got the seat next to me in October folks ? It's my birthday during the trip so come on....let's party !!

Hi Son of Mick

Great to hear your feedback we are looking at offering more tours next year without a single supplement.

In many instances the room occupied by singles is a twin/double room.

Our holidays represent excellent value for money based upon the standard of accommodation provided and we are aware of the needs of single travellers so we do try to negotiate the best rate for all.

From a hotels perspective they look at a room as an earning unit and expect to recover a set amount from that room immaterial of the number of occupants.

Our new products will be launched in October so please look out for tours without supplements.

Hope you do manage to join us on one of our tours.

Zorba,

Thanks for the response. I understand he reasons just don't agree with them. Look forward to getting the new brochure and I shall commence the delicate process of re-negotiating my 120 hour pass as I would dearly love to go on this trip.

Cheers all.

Oh and meant to add that if I do it will be my 4th Leger trip (with Kaiserslacht booked for both of us next year).

Couldn't edit previous post.
