As a frequent traveler with Leger, I am becoming very dissapointed....

The reason is this....I have booked to go on the Dutch Bulbfield Cruise in April.

In August I am taking a party of colleagues over to Arnhem, on the Market Garden tour.

My wife is going with Leger to Paris and Monet's Garden tour, also in August...

On each occasion the cross channel service is via the tunnel.

What has happened to the ferry?

The ferry gives the traveler a WELCOME break from sitting on the coach.

For example...my trip to the Dutch Bulbfields is in excess of 15 hours from my pick up point, the ferry would be a welcome break.

Leger seem to have abandoned the ferry...WHY?

I can only assume it is cost.

If this is true, it is a poor policy....The journey to your destination has to be part of the tour, other wise the whole experience becomes HARD WORK.

Come on Leger, let's get back on the boat.

I'm sure you can negotiate a decent price....

Ed.

Hi Pegasus

I have not heard about the policy of going by Eurostar, have Leger switched from the Ferry then ? There is nothing on their website. I have booked a couple of holidays with Leger this year and as far as I can see they are still traveling by the Ferry. If this is a switch to the tunnel then I concur with you, I enjoy the ferry experience and treat it as part of the holiday.

Regards

Matt

Only a minority of tour departures use the Tunnel, and as far as I am aware these departures are indicated in the brochure so people can choose whether to go on that date and thus via that travel method or not.

I can assure you that there is no plan to 'abandon' the ferry, for the very reasons you mention, but it is a fact just as many people who love the ferry also hate it - which is why we offer this choice.

I'm sorry Paul, you are incorrect when you say "As far as you are aware the channel crossing is indicated in the brochure"

I have just looked at all three holidays we have booked with Leger for 2007 and I cannot see any indication as to whether the crossing is tunnel or ferry.

In the General Info. on page 148 of the 2007 brochure it states...Channel Crossings are by ferry from Dover to Calais or on selected dates by Eurotunnel from Folkestone to Calais.

If you could indicate as to where I should look for the "Selected Dates" I will know in future..

Thanks, Ed

Hmm - I shall raise this with Leger as they certainly used to be indicated in the brochure and I presumed they still were!

we have just had an independant trip to france and went via the tunnel. we quite like the ferry when we are on a tour but I must say our journey time was really quick. going on our own.
Actually got a very good deal Tunnel crossing both ways, three nights bed & breakfast in a campanile and the total cost was £198.00 The campanile was at Arras, we have stayed there before. We ate in their restaurant and the food was excellent. This break was booked through Drive Alive on the internet

Must say that i found the tunnel system with Leger far easier than the ferry, but i can understand having a good stretch, and a proper meal on route is a bonus using the ferry.  Although it does tend to get you to your first hotel later than via Le Shuttle.   Cheers Phil...
