Depends which Angel of Mons episode you mean. The truth is that this was wartime propaganda - it was used, among other things, to suggest that God was on our side. It was written by the progaganda bureau headed up by some leading writers of the day, John Buchan (39 Steps) among them.

I don't know about the Angel of Mons but on my first visit to the Somme the following happened to me.
Late in the day and on the coach heading back to the hotel I was looking across the countryside and saw a cloud formation that resembled the shape of a figure with wings/arms outstretched in an almost protective way. What's more at this moment the most incredible feeling of peace washed over me and lasted for several minutes.
I am not a religious or spiritual person normally but that day???
Who really knows?
All I hope is that all who died, on both sides, are at peace somewhere.
Lest we forget
